The Utah bar association said about this case - “Utah sentencing guidelines for a second degree felony against a person for a first-time offender are from 0-210 days in jail and up to 48 months probation. Judge Hogan’s sentence for Saltsman fell within the recommended sentence based upon guidelines established by Utah’s Sentencing Commission.” Maybe be mad at the sentencing guidelines and the law that makes this a second degree felony. Not the judge who sentenced him to the highest end based on the guidelines.

A Judge is empowered within the limits of the law, clearly the law needs to be changed here so the crime is of much higher severity. Can't blame the judge for giving the maximum sentence he could possibly give, the law needs changing.

Edit: The Judge is not Law and Order manifest into man. He cannot decide the law and punishment, only to what degree of punishment within the bounds of law can he make a decision. In this case, he went for the full whammy, and I bet money he wished he could've done more.

This post is severely lacking in context about the judge and sentencing.
