When I was super pregnant, I was at Costco and there was a little sample stand with pulled pork sandwiches. They were cutting these baguettes into tiny finger sandwiches and putting a little pinch of bbq pulled pork on them. As I’m waddling towards the stand, there’s one left, and this lady practically shoved me aside so she can grab the last sample. And then she hung out in the aisle eating that one and waiting for more.
I was irritated but whatever.
The guy working the stand saw her do it, and says to me “hey I’ve got more coming right now. But hey, I think this next baguette piece looks weird, does it look weird to you?” “No it looks fine to me? Why is it weird?”
“I’m not sure. But since you think it looks ok and I don’t think it does, I can’t use this piece, so if I just loaded it up with toppings and handed it to you… Because I can’t serve this bread but if I just accidentally start making sandwiches before I realized the bread was weird…” as he’s piling it up.
And then I realized what was happening. My man handed my huge pregnant ass an entire sandwich. And I felt so so happy. He’s a good one. I still see him occasionally at my Costco and when I do, I make sure to grab a manager and say “hey this guy in produce, I couldn’t find what I was looking for and he went way out of his way to help me find it!” Or something applicable to wherever I see him that day.
