Before I had direct deposit my bank would always put a one day hold on my paychecks before the funds would be available in my account. But if I cashed the check and then just deposited that into my account I would have access to the money right away. After a few pay cycles the bank teller told me “ this isn’t really the way you’re supposed to do this” I smiled and said I didn’t mind (they were clearly annoyed). This went on for a year every Friday and they made a stink about it every time and I don’t know why.

Other that the fact that this story is older than me, is there any bank that actually has that rule?
