I worked as a developer on a lesser known social networking platform. The client literally wanted me to disable part of the search bar functionality for members with a free account. I said to the client, "You know, it feels like you're punishing people for not paying for a premium account, rather than actually offering features that people would want to pay extra for." Their response: "Maybe, but we need to make money."

Wanna know what's worse? I paid for a $300 (I paid less) AC made by wink and they did not include a remote but they did offer a free app which was fine since I was working on getting into smart home devices. A couple years later they decide to start charging for this "feature". My AC is installed out of reach meaning I now need to buy a different AC. I thought i had it bad until i started reading reviews when this announcement came. People completely did their home with wink gadgets and now are sitting on useless equipment. One review stated that they got everything wink offered which was about $3,000 worth of stuff and now they can't even use it without the subscription. It's insane....
