This is good. I like this a lot.

One of the most detrimental things that happened to me growing up was being labeled as smart. I internalized it to mean that my good grades were simply a result of my innate ability and didn't develop any semblance of a responsible work ethic. Eventually the rigor of the material caught up to me and I nearly failed out of college because I didn't know how to study/work hard. It took a while for me to undo a lot of bad habits.

It took me 9 years to get my Bachelors degree. That includes a year and a half off when I was on Academic Suspension for shit grades. I failed multiple classes. Some of them I had to take 3 times before I could pass.

I sure as hell felt like a failure. But I still made it. I graduated with a B.S. in physics, and I have a good career and a great life.

So yeah, don't beat yourself up. You can do this.
