I read something on rural farming in the 19th century for my history class. For your average community barn raising (reciprocal not paid labor) you needed at least 5 GALLONS (about 19 litres) of whiskey or there would be trouble. But you had to be careful about no give people too much because they wouldn't get anything done. And if you were too generous with the booze it was on you for the people getting sloshed not theirs for going past their limit.

Edit: depending on the barn there could be anywhere from 5 to 15 people involved I believe so that's a lot of whiskey per person.

edit: for anyone interested the article this was sourced from is "Reciprocal Work Bees and the Meaning of Neighborhood" by Catharine Anne Wilson in Canadian Historical Review 82, 3 (September 2001): 432:464

I accessed it through my university library, but there may be an open-source copy out there or an inexpensive one for purchase.

My grandpa was a cook in Korean war. And they gave him a book all about upscaling. And how to order supplies and ration foods. And what food built spirit, and what foods were a must eat in bad situation's.

Ye the scale to the recipes are massive just like this one here
