In Blackjack, there is never a beneficial time to split 5's. Even against the best professional counters, the situation doesn't exist.

In my 7 years of being a dealer, if anyone wanted to do something dumb I asked them once are they sure and then did it. Surveillance is everywhere and I really couldn't give 2 shits if the people took the casinos money.

I wasn’t paying attention closely one time and doubled down on an 18. The dealer was all “are you sure”. Like “you moron”. Of course I already said it and didn’t want to look like an idiot. So I said yes. He called it out to the pit boss, pit boss came over and looked at me, said deal, the dealer dealt a three.

I only won about 50 bucks but it was the greatest accident ever.
