This reminds me of my husband, only he likes to organize furniture or hang frustrating things or just move heavy objects really (he's a simple man), so when he's in a funk, I say something like 'wouldn't it be cool if the couch was on that wall? ..oh, but then we'd have to move everything, oh well" and then he thinks about it for a few minutes to figure out how his sweet lil OCD brain how it will be symmetrical, and he's happy again once he's finished. Relationships are about the little things.
Sometimes all a person needs in order to feel good is to feel helpful/useful. Offer a problem that's not too hard so you know they can solve it, but not so simple that they will know you know

My brother is the same way, except I fixed his mood by mentioning that I needed to build a floor lamp.
