Most medical debt is not enforceable against family members in the US. If you get a medical bill for someone who is deceased, always talk to an estate lawyer before you pay anything.
A hospital tried to get us to pay $500,000 for 6 months of chemo treatments of my grandfathers. Had some family torn all apart since we couldn't even afford a funeral. When the debt collectors called, I told them they knew just as well as I that medical debt does not transfer after death and to go find a better fucking job then harassing mourning people.
