Since the beginning of this pandemic, I have been baffled by the complete refusal to discuss our national duty to protect one another as citizens of the same nation. Do we no longer owe anything to one another? Do we believe we’ve grown past that? You’d think so, from our political economy. You’d think there was no reason to do something that wasn’t personally profitable.
When did it become okay to just... not care about other people?
I've noticed that, even among Asian folk here in Canada. Always wondered why I saw so many of them wearing masks (this was pre-COVID). I now understand they were being selfless and helpful to others.
It's not just the U.S. though. Even in Canada, we could stand to emulate them in this.
