In the comics, almost immediately after he was brought out of the ice, Stark gave him magnets for his shield. These were quickly discarded though because he said they threw off the weighting of the shield.
I like to think he was only trying it out once or twice, maybe just to appease Stark, but eventually ditched it because he likes the old fashioned straps.

It kept killing his phone... We already learned that the Avengers don't get paid, so that gets expensive!
