A local breed-specific rescue in my area has a special program for ‟unadoptable” dogs, the ones that are too old or have special needs that’d typically leave them overlooked. Instead of adopting, you become a ‟permanent foster” for the dog, which simply means it lives with you for however long it has left in this world.Meanwhile, the rescue pays for the dog’s necessary medical care, palliative care, and euthanizing when the time comes. They’ll even provide the dog food if necessary. Best dogs ever.
What’s really sad is a lot of small dogs are owned by elderly people and are brought to the shelter after the elderly people die so not only are the dogs sad that their owner has left them but now they have no home.
