We have a similar situation here in Australia. Our international borders are closed to non-Aust residents, and normally our farmers hire staff/ labour from Pacific nations (Fiji, Samoa etc) and Backpackers with poor pay and conditions that the Australian job seekers do not accept. Now that the borders are closed, the farmers are saying we have no staff, no one will work for us, we need assistance from the Govt to survive, we are going to go bankrupt.... or they could just pay local staff a fair wage and normal conditions...
I can't believe some people are actually falling for this "worker shortage" bs. I know we just went through a plague but there's no way a statistically significant amount of workers just up and disappeared. There's a shortage of poverty wage workers, and that's a great thing because it tilts the power in our favor.
