Then I remember that I was once making a friend chilaquiles for the first time, and when I cut up the tortillas and fried them, she looked me dead in the eye and asked what I was doing, and I said, “making chips” and she said, “I didn’t know they came from tortillas” and I said, “bitch, they’re literally called “tortilla chips”
I know that “taco shells” are corn tortillas, but I’ll confess that I didn’t realize that I could bake my own in the desired shape so easily. Not only is it cheaper, but eliminates a lot of plastic packaging needed to cushion hard shells during shipping.
