I find it shocking that so many people see hugging as this extremely intimate thing, when to me it's one hell of a must for you to be considered my friend or family.

This reminds me of a moment in my high school psychology class years ago. I believe we were talking about nature vs. nurture, and the teacher asked one of the more popular and disruptive kids in the class if he still gave his mom a hug and a kiss before bed at night. Without missing a beat he said “if my mom wants a hug or kiss on the cheek before I go to bed, of course I’ll give her one. She’s my mom!” He was met with some “ewww Kyle still kisses his mom goodnight!” from some of the other guys ribbing him, but I thought it was the cutest thing for a guy in high school to unashamedly admit.

Edit: Since so many people are trying to theorize how this guy was popular, disruptive, and unashamedly loved his momma all at the same time. He was the definition of a class clown. He came from a fairly wealthy family, had a sincere and funny personality, and was well liked by most everyone.
