This is good advice. It took me a while to figure out that if I asked permission to do something fun, my mom would not allow it and would make me feel shitty for asking. I just started doing whatever I wanted and living with the consequences.
This is what my little brother did .... my sister and I were “perfect” because we were too scared to misbehave and my brother couldn’t care in the least bit.

My wife has an 70ish aunt whose 90ish mother still won't allow her to use ice in her drinks. So start early or this could be you.
