Nothing turns subreddits like r/worldnews into Stormfront faster than bringing up Romani. It's actually kind of jarring if you're not prepared for it, like having a conversation with someone who seems completely normal and then they lean over and start whispering about CIA mind-control microchips in their vaccines.
OP is 100% spot on, here in Spain people like to pretend racism is only an American problem and then turn around and point out how gypsies are the scum of the country and need to be sent away. This sentiment is literally everywhere it's almost normalised to view gypsies as petty criminals
