My favourite is when my boss tells me it's URGENT that I do a thing TODAY when he took the task on himself 3 days ago but procrastinated instead. Ah, to be a business owner.

I had something similar happen to me at one of my old retail jobs.

The store I worked in was relatively small, we would get one large delivery every Friday, usually early in the morning. I was a supervisor there and I usually closed the store every Friday, when I punched in the truck was normally unloaded already.

One Friday we were particularly busy because of a sale, and the delivery truck happened to show up right around the time I started my shift.

As I leave the breakroom where we punched in, one of my coworkers comes to me with a complicated issue that only a supervisor or manager has permission to handle, and I didn't even have time to say hello to my manager or go look at the truck. Because we were busy, I ended up helping several customers in a row, and didn't get an opportunity to help unload the delivery.

Our manager comes in from unloading the truck convinced I intentionally avoided helping, chews me out while ignoring my responses, and goes up into the office for the rest of his shift. They spent most of that time on the phone, complaining about me to their spouse and one of the other managers loud enough that staff and customers could hear.

Some people just shouldn't be management man.

I had a boss that loved to martyr herself.

We could have something come up on Friday afternoon, and I’d come to her and say “don’t worry, I already told my wife not to expect me for dinner, and I can cancel my plans tomorrow, let’s get this done”.

Then she’d say it’s no big deal, that it can wait until Monday, family is more important, etc etc.

Come Monday she’d ask about my weekend, and then respond to whatever I said with “well I’m glad glad you had a good weekend, ‘cause I was here all Saturday fixing xyz”

So infuriating.
