I'm not saying that all suboptimal decisions count as 'roleplay', nor that all optimal decisions aren't roleplay. I'm saying that if an action is in-character and would make for interesting storytelling, it might be worth doing, even if it's not necessarily the 'best' decision overall.
Such as choosing to indebt yourself to a devil to spare your dying mother, or releasing an enemy hostage to protect a civilian.

My current character is high int but average wis, so he comes up with brilliant ideas that are not exactly what one would call good ideas.
I typically preface the ideas with "I have a really bad idea" and they almost always work out in our favour thanks to the absurdity of the plans/ideas
