And to think $4.50 is one of the higher wages I've seen, I believe my area is 2 something an hour

I worked at a restaurant that went under new management while I was working there, new rule implemented was that no employee could take food home they ordered on shift. Didn’t finish your meal? Throw it in the trash.

I left the industry in February. Just couldn't take all the abuse anymore.

It's taken almost two months and I've been scraping by, but I'm about to start a job in the cannabis industry. It's already so much better-salary, quarterly bonuses, paid time off, health insurance, company car, phone stipend, fringe benefits out the ass.

The thing is, I really spent a lot of time working on my resume and taking adobe classes to be able to get the job. I never would have been able to do that shit while still pulling long hours waiting and bartending.

Almost twenty years in the service industry, and all it took was a month on unemployment to break out of the cycle. Restaurants are a trap. If you're on the fence and able - quit. I can't promise you immediate results, there's as much luck and chance involved as anything else, but I CAN promise you the service industry is quicksand and it only gets harder to get out.
