Man throws coins into plane engine for 'good luck'

Flying can be a nerve-wracking experience for many, especially first-time flyers who have no idea what to expect when they are airborne.

Many flyers are known to be superstitious about certain habits and customs which they believe can bring them luck during a journey.

Unfortunately, not all pre-flight habits of passengers are safe. Some can cause panic and also lead to physical damages to the aircraft.

Something of that sort happened aboard a flight in the central Shandong province in China.

A passenger hoping to fly with some good luck ended up having the entire flight cancelled after he threw coins into the engine of the plane. Yes, the passenger actually threw metallic coins into one of the propellors of the flight, thinking it can bring him good luck.

The incident reportedly took place at an airport in Weifang. A male passenger, identified with the last name Wang, was scheduled to fly from Weifang to Haiku on a Beibu Gulf Airlines flight GX8814 when he threw a handful of coins into the engine.

Fortunately, the staff was soon alerted about the coins in the engine after workers found coins on the ground during the pre-takeoff inspection.

Wang reportedly admitted having thrown six coins wrapped in red paper inside the plane's engine. A picture of the coins has now been shared online.

The staff managed to recover all the coins but the flight had to be cancelled due to safety concerns. All 148 passengers were forced to do deboard and wait for another flight until the next morning.

Following the incident, WAng was detained by the police.

This isn't the first time that someone threw coins at a plane's engine in China.

Last year, a 28-year-old superstitious passenger threw coins at a plane's engine for 'good luck'. He was ordered to pay a fine of 1,20,000 yuan (Rs 12.36 lakh) to the budget airline Lucky Air for his actions.

They should have a little coin shrine built into the passenger compartment for these people because this shit happens a lot.

Taking inspiration from this, I'm just going to fire a shotgun into my engine every morning before heading to work.
