Never before seen 9/11 photo, discovered in a photo book I received from a late relative. The photos have never been digitized nor seen by anyone other than her — until now.

Watching the second plane was the most insane, surreal moment of my life

I was watching the first season of the FBI Files on Amazon Prime. The show was made in 1998 and they were documenting the 1993 bombing. It was super eerie to hear the narrator say that the architect had planned for number of disaster scenarios including “something as unimaginable as a fully fueled jet.”

I was attending Stuyvesant HS, about 3-4 blocks away from the twin towers, when this happened. I remember it all like it was yesterday. I had a calculus test that morning which I was not ready for. So when our teacher told us it was canceled because there had been an incident at the WTC, I felt ecstatic. Then he turned on the TV in our classroom that had the news on. A few minutes later, the class rapidly descended into chaos, and most of us ran out of the room to the side of the school facing the towers. From the upper floors of our school on that side, there is a clear view of the buildings.

I will never forget that day- what I saw, smelled, heard... also the long journey— following an emergency evacuation after the first tower collapsed and we felt our building shake— up the west side highway to a working subway while filled with dread, disbelief, and the surreal, seemingly permanent cloud of dust snd debris ever present in our rear view.
