This was commno among the Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) for a while..

Lots of Amish farms, very little crime and especially very little violent crime, so very little need for a strong police presence.

Tourism and farming was not making enough money for some families and they took advantage of having land and relatively little oversight to make extra money growing pot. Rumor had it some got tied up with groups like the Hell's Angels.

They were caught thanks to some routine flights that spotted the grow patches just like in the pic here. But not a lot of harsh punishments were handed out as being Amish was considered at least as much of a hardship as jail time.

As someone who grew up around family members illegally growing marijuana theres an old saying that goes like, "You have to grow in 3 different spots. One for the thieves, one for the cops, and then a real one for the business."
