I read this story yesterday - I understand she left the items behind when confronted. The store called the police out of concern because she seemed so disoriented.

Doesn't mention one of the cops saying afterwards "a little blood, a little mud" with a smile after taking down an old lady and breaking her body as she pleads that she just wanted to go home (which she could see down the road). Cops seemed proud of what they had done.

This is heartbreaking. My grandmother, before she passed, had vascular dementia. At times she seemed normal but then something would happen and she would become completely disoriented and confused.

We had a situation where she was basically wandering the streets alone. Luckily a male nurse that had just gotten off shift noticed something was wrong and helped her use her cellphone to contact my mother.

I can't imagine someone throwing her to the ground. She would already be terrified and confused just due to dementia but to add physical violence on top is beyond cruel.
