Okay so LPT for everyone.... I work in logistics and handle many, many produce shipments every year. When it comes to berries specifically - they're in those containers with holes in them FOR TRANSIT. there's circulating cool air in the trailer while they're being taken from the producer to store shelves.

When you buy berries, repackage them in a container or ziplock and they'll stay fresher MUCH longer. Also, throw a capful of Lemon juice in there and gently toss [like I do with salads ;)] and they'll stay fresher even longer (a day more or so) The citric acid in the lemon juice helps with keeping the oxidative damage down on the fruit.

Who the hell would leave a basket of strawberries till the next 12 hours. A strawberry enters my house, a strawberry is eaten, period.
