One of the best things i learned from a music appreciation class long ago. There's lots of great music i don't really like. Just because i don't like it, does not make it great.
Okay, but have you ever been on a 7-8 hour long car trip with some one who has wildly different tastes in music than you? I have... and it’s kind of awful. On the other hand my wife and I have only slightly different musical preferences and it works out beautifully. Like, even when she’s listening to things I’m not big on, it’s not usually anything I outright hate. And sharing music that you both enjoy is great for bonding. Pre-Covid, going to concerts together was one of our favorite things to do.
Edit: Just remembered I also dated a girl who only listened to Alanis Morrisette. And I like her music, but you’ve got to have some variety, right? But I’d have something playing in my car and she would get grumpy and annoyed because it wasn’t Jagged Little Pill.
