Just watched the Sherpa Netflix doc. Harrowing, confusing watch. I love nature and climbing and have zero want to ever climb it.

There's a book written by Jon Krakauer called "Into Thin Air" that goes into great detail about what it's like to climb Everest and the problems facing the area today. While it's true that the large commercial expeditions are causing the majority of the problems on the mountain, it's a complex, two way street. IMO there are two options: Keep raising the "trash" fees until even the rich tourists feel it, or shut the mountain down every two years for cleaning. The money for that would also come from fees. Whatever the solution is, they need to find it or the mountain will be ruined.
