Metroid Prime 4 goes 800 days without any official updates from Nintendo, either about the status of its development or a possible release date.

Today marks 800 days since the last news regarding Metroid Prime 4 was released. The upcoming installment in the Metroid franchise does not have a release date yet, so fans have been patiently waiting for any kind of update. However, Nintendo has not shared information about Metroid Prime 4 in over two years, and some fans are starting to lose hope about getting any details soon.

Metroid is one of the most iconic and well-known franchises in video gaming, and it has been a success ever since its original release in the eighties. The series follows Samus Aran in her quest to protect the galaxy from space pirates and other threads. Metroid has influenced the video game industry so much that, together with Castlevania, it is the main inspiration for the whole Metroidvania subgenre. The Prime series which first released on GameCube took Metroid from a 2D to a 3D perspective, making it even more challenging.

The last time fans got word about Metroid Prime 4 was on January 25, 2019, when Nintendo Senior Managing Executive Officer Shinya Takahashi announced the game was being delayed because it was not meeting the quality standards Nintendo was looking for. Now, two years after that video was released, fans are wondering if they will receive any Metroid updates soon. Many fans are sharing their thoughts on Twitter and speculating about the reasons Nintendo has not shared new information yet.

Even though Nintendo has not announced an official release date for Metroid Prime 4, some think the game will drop at the beginning of 2023. The reason is that recently, fans who pre-ordered Metroid Prime 4 received mail from Amazon saying the game had been delayed until January 2, 2023; although this date may not be accurate since it is unusual for games to be released on a Monday.

It has been exactly 800 days since the last official mention of Metroid Prime 4.

Despite the lack of information, it seems Metroid Prime 4 is still under development, which is good news. Last December Nintendo posted some job openings for a Boss/AI Designer position on Metroid Prime 4. This seems to indicate the developers are making an effort to move forward with the game, and hopefully have it available in the near future.

While there is no denying that Metroid Prime 4 has become a highly anticipated game, some users on Twitter seem to think Nintendo made the right decision to delay the release date if it meant improving the quality of the end product. On the other hand, some fans think the delay is a consequence of friction between Nintendo and former developer Bandai Namco, which was replaced in 2019 by Retro Studios.

Metroid Prime 4 is currently in development for Nintendo Switch.

Considering we had it have to be remade by Retro and a pandemic happened I wouldn't expect it anytime soon, maybe E3 but even that seems unlikely (I'd assume they'd use that time to talk about BOTW2/Bayo 3)
