Wife is a pediatric nurse, works surgery. Had a 2 year old who puked out pancakes all over my wife after surgery. Wife asked mom BEFORE surgery if child ate, was told no. When child was vomiting my wife asked mom if she was sure she had nothing to eat, mom looks at her sheepishly and says ‘maybe a little’.

Morons, this could get your kid killed. Aspirating vomit is SUPER dangerous, that’s why Doctors tell you to eat nothing 13 hours prior.

Edit - wow, this blew up.

When the anesthesiologists call the day before, they usually tell the parents not to give child anything to eat or drink because they can vomit during surgery. Wife asks the same question as admitting nurse and gives same reasoning.

"Yeah! It was something we did to her! Namely: Operating on a patient with food in her belly! Which we warned you is a VERY! VERY! VERY bad thing!"

Imagine almost killing your child because you didn’t listen to her doctors because she was hungry.
