For me, it was my 1.5-yrs-older brother who had to do the talking for me when we were kids. I used to clam up at the counter when I had to say my order or ask for extra paper napkins. Mom would usually facepalm and be like "Just say it, CapnImpulse. It's not so hard."

I definitely did this as a kid. Thought I was clever if we were in a restaurant--I would conveniently go to the bathroom as soon as I saw wait staff approach our table, always making sure to tell someone else what I wanted before leaving. No way I fooled anyone with that.

I can't speak for everyone but as someone who works at McDonald's, it's always amusing watching this happen. FYI we do hear you.
