WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich. — Authorities in Michigan arrested a man Friday after he gave them a fake name that happened to be the name of a person wanted on an outstanding warrant, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers arrested the man, identified only as a 30-year-old resident of Lawton, after spotting a vehicle parked on the shoulder of M-55 in Clam Lake Township around 6:30 a.m. Friday. Officials said they noticed a woman in the driver’s seat of the car and the man in the passenger’s seat. When troopers activated their emergency lights, authorities said the man ducked.

When troopers asked the man for his name, he gave them a fake one, officials said.

“The person (whose) name he used had a warrant for his arrest,” according to state police.

Troopers arrested the man on the outstanding warrant. During a subsequent search, officials said they found methamphetamine in the man’s pants. Troopers also said they found a scale, small baggies and cash on him.

Authorities booked the man into Wexford County Jail to face charges including possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Troopers said that while he was being booked, “he was found to have smuggled more drugs into the jail.”

It wasn’t until after the man was fingerprinted that authorities learned he’d given a false name, officials said.

Investigators expect the man to face charges of smuggling drugs into jail, lying to a peace officer during a felony and littering “after troopers found numerous pop cans and lottery tickets that were thrown on the ground that were able to be connected back to the vehicle.”
