My husband will occasionally think he’s back in the Middle East and has on multiple occasions attacked me in his sleep. The first time he scratched my face all the way down drawing blood. The second third and fourth time he punched me. Each time he sees the damage he causes and breaks down crying. We both know it isn’t his fault. The trauma they endure is very real.

Edit: I shared this because others may need to read it. I feel uncomfortable even admitting it behind the anonymity that is the internet. Please stay strong for each other.

My brother served and he is so incredibly messed up, I am glad he didn't have kids. He is so abusive now, we all barely see him cause he tried to shoot us on a coke binge. He has really bad ptsd and does not take help. I feel so bad for him and anyone who tries to get a handle on him.

My uncle drank himself to death (Vietnam vet) (rip saulo)

My partner is severely depressed and is getting out soon but needs some serious mental health care and can't hear very well.

People say things like "thank you for your service" without knowing what they're saying. Recruiters and MACs have to do their jobs and maintain these pages with answers like this all the time. Stuff they know needs to change and have to ignore it because changing the military would take civilians and leadership really deconstructing and reconstructing every branch then hoping human error doesn't put them back right where they started. Shitty shitty shitty.
