That purple burst is awesome! Well done. How does it sound?

......well... crap. I guess the only thing for me to do is make a grand piano by hand to rival your awesome violin lol

Seriously, that looks beautiful. If you're to sell it, how much would you price it at? Or putting it another way, how many hours did it took you to complete the violin?

From a woodworkers perspective this is very nice. However from a violinist's perspective there are some pretty big things that will negatively affect the sound. I'm speaking as someone who has played violin for 37 years, 20 of which professionally. The first thing I noticed is the bridge is way too thick and the curve of the bridge is incorrect. This will not only hamper the sound it will make it difficult to play. Also the strings should not be sitting down inside a groove on the bridge, there should just be a small indentation on the top edge of the bridge where the string sits on top. You should also avoid using bridges with ebony inserts as the ebony will really dampen the vibrations of the E string further deadening the sound. The bridge is not placed in the correct location on the top further negatively affecting the sound. The tailpiece, while fancy, would not function well if you were to try and play as others have pointed out. It also appears to be too long changing the afterlength of the strings and negatively affecting the sound. Its difficult to know for sure, but based on the side photo of the violin the top looks way too thick to have been graduated correctly. This more than anything else would really hamper getting decent sound from the instrument. Having the top graduated and tuned is one of the most important steps in producing a quality sound.

This is in no way a meant to be insulting to your work, but meant to be constructive criticism. Its important for people to know what they are getting if they pay that much for a violin. With such high quality instruments being made in China now, the market is saturated with pretty decent instruments at a very low cost. This is just the reality.

My advice to perspective buyers, if you want an instrument that looks pretty, this would be a decent purchase. But if you want an instrument that will function well and retain its value, go to a reputable luthier.
