LA resident here who formerly lived across from a women's shelter. Outside the shelter, several homeless men would camp out and regularly left syringes, broken beer bottles, trash of all kinds and the constant smell of urine, shit or weed. And the fighting! All hours of the day. Yelling, actual fist fights - Cops were there 4 nights a week. I once offered a box of rice krispies to a guy who wanted food and he wouldn't accept, demanding lucky charms. When I said no, he grabbed the rice krispies dumped it on the ground and told me to fuck off. Some of these guys lived our of their cars and regularly drove into (and wrecked) cars parked on the street. My fiance was threatened with a knife by one guy and threatened to be raped by another. I don't want to have the "not in my backyard" mentality, but we got the fuck out of there as soon as our lease was up.
All this said, there were a few that were always very nice and clearly working hard to improve their station in life. For every one of them, there were 50 others that not only made our life more difficult but theirs as well. While I'm sure the multi-million aire white woman that lives in the suburbs who likely printed this sign means well, it's well intentioned demands like this that lack real knowledge and plans that turn neighborhoods in cities to shit.
