New Zealand just approved a new measure allowing for paid leave after miscarriage. The legislation is believed to be among the first in the world, applying to couples who lose a baby at any point
Makes sense, miscarriage is probably devastating and having to go back to work after such a thing happened is probably not good for mental health. (I'm saying probably since I have don't know really how someone in that situation would feel, I'm just guessing from what people have said and what I've heard.)
My wife and I suffered two miscarriages. The second one was way worse. I watched as she went from happy and excited to just utter devastation in one day. Even though we had already experienced it once, the second time felt worse for her - physically and emotionally.
Her work provides her no leave for this situation. She thought she could just push through it even though I could tell her demeanor had changed significantly. She cried sporadically for a week straight. Just normal and then start tearing up at random times.
My wife's situation is similar to others who have also experienced this tragedy. Bereavement leave for a miscarriage should be a thing. I'm happy a country has taken the leap and made this change.
