My dad died when I was an infant. I had many surrogate dads in my friend’s parents. I learn many life lessons from these amazing men. In a way I had many dads. I think it has made me a well rounded adult and hopefully excellent father to my own children.
When my son was in cub scouts I was a stand in for parents that couldn't/wouldn't be active with the group. We had 4 boys that had no one and I did all I could for them. Camping, building, and crossing the bridge (big advancement for the kids). Never made a show and treated the boys like my own. Being a den mother like this was one of the best things I ever did. I hope those boys are doing well now that they are all grown up.

It's the seemingly small acts like this that stand out to me as most significant.
Also, these types of people are everywhere. Sometimes you may need to look closely but they're always there.
