I read Mulberry Street and If I ran the Zoo to my children quite a bit. Both of them were commonly checked out of the library I work at. I honestly am a bit surprised to hear that people are not familiar with them.
I mean I personally love Mulberry Street. I dont see why they couldn't remove the offending sentence and drawing. They already redid the cartoon once. Why not replace it instead of pulling the whole book? But I am also not bent out of shape about it.
I got "And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street" for Xmas one year from my babysitter. I can't say that I remember anything offensive it, but it's been a long time.
My mom had "If I ran the Zoo" from her childhood so it was in our library.
