Your brother has a sweet beard.

I used to work with adults with developmental disabilities and I never saw any of the folks with Down syndrome grow beards. They shaved everyday. Only one guy said he wanted a beard. I used to cut his hair for him and he would ask why he couldn’t have a beard.

His mom wouldn’t let him grow a beard and it bummed him out. Kudos to your mom for letting your bro rock a beard. It looks really good on him with his haircut.

My next-door neighbor growing up had Down Syndrome. He was the nicest kid ever. He had a great, great family too. He always enjoyed acting like the grownup around the neighborhood kids, (playfully) scolding us when we got too wild. At the same time, he had this wonderful self-deprecating way of being a part of our group. Knowing him when I was 8-12 years old was extremely beneficial to me, probably more than any other friend I had, because he taught me that having fun while doing something is more important than doing it well... or sometimes even more important than doing it correctly.

My uncle who had Down syndrome died last week @65, which is pretty old.

He had really bad dementia in his last few years and lived in a respite home. I'm just glad my grandma went first (last year @99yrs) or it would have destroyed her.
