My dad was in prison for almost 10 years during my adolescence
He got out in time to see my UCLA graduation and now he is married to a woman he previous had a daughter with, and he has a labor job with health benefits
But my sister still calls him “David” since he didnt raise her, its kinda funny lol
Point is, people who haven’t committed violent offenses (and even some cases those who have) should not have to spend their whole life in prison
Minorities are conditioned to think these institutions exist to persecute us and not help us, and its possible to flip that script if we take example from wealthy European countries that do things differently

Decriminalize drugs. Reform the police. Stop letting prisons profit. Implement a UBI. Problem solved.
