As a retired nurse, don't think that hasn't been a tempting option.

Admittedly, we have access to midazolam.

I have an adult child who has a number of conditions and has been quite violent. I took a class called managing threatening confrontations to help stay alive until things got better. There were CNAs, respite workers, school paraprofessionals, all people who make low wages but work with people like my son on a regular basis. The class is available for healthcare workers and first responders too, but the hundreds or so dollars is too much I guess. Also my son had a special record with the local police on how to deal with him in an emergency and we met with the crisis team who asked me questions but basically said that they dont have time to read it and cant promise to follow anything it said and even outright said that they would shoot him if need be. He was 17 when we had this meeting. Non verbal, cant read write count lots of issues. But they'll shoot him even though there's no access to weapons. His teachers meanwhile do fine even when he did get aggressive. Without shooting him.
