In addition to getting a 4K UHD home release, Shrek is returning to theaters for a limited time in honor of the film's 20th anniversary.

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation's Shrek is returning to theaters in honor of the film's 20th anniversary.

Courtesy of Fathom Events, Shrek will return to select theaters April 25, 28 and 29, with tickets going on sale March 12. This news follows the announcement that Shrek is being released in 4K for the first time in May.

"We are delighted to partner with Universal and DreamWorks Animation to bring Shrek back to the big screen for its 20th anniversary," Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations Tom Lucas said. "This treasured animated feature has enduring multi-generational appeal and makes for a great day at the cinema for the whole family."

Kind-hearted ogre Shrek embarks on a daring quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona —who’s perfectly capable of rescuing herself, thank you very much— with the help of his loveable, loudmouthed Donkey, in an attempt to win back the deed to his beloved swamp from the vain, scheming, and surprisingly petite Lord Farquaad. But what begins as a rescue mission will become an epic story of eternal love and enduring friendship for the ages.

Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, Shrek stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. The film returns to theaters April 25, 28 and 29, while the Shrek 20th Anniversary Edition goes on sale May 11.

Now we are getting CGI films with some years on them like Shrek and the original Toy Story I wonder if we will see a trend of remasters, keep the same voice acting just push them through the 2021 graphic machines. It worked for videogames after all.

By the 25th anniversary I want to see remastered Shrek where you can clearly see every pore of his big ogre face.

I owned this movie on VHS in 2001. I feel so old.

Edit - Okay I'm happy this is a thread full of older millennials feeling old & nostalgic about their childhood. Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
