Random idea: if she painted one of these on canvas and took a high quality photo of it and had that made into a large puzzle, that would be pretty rad. Just sayin.
I would seal this to protect from fingerprints and paint chipping! Also, if she painted the knobs black on the white side it might give a cool yin and yang effect.

Might I suggest a thick coat or polyurethane to smoothen out the paint texture
