A very sad day in European history. In historical terms, very interesting how the direct aftermath of the attack shaped Spains political course as the attack happened only days before a general election and the ruling conservative party went a long way to attribute the attack to the domestic terrorist group ETA, which had nothing to do with it. After this became clear, the conservatives lost the election and socialist Zapatero became prime minister.
