Can we also make it illegal for universities to dictate that students can’t be paid for internships that are tied to a student’s degree? Because apparently the expectation is that you should have to work full time for no pay, write a thesis, and then work ANOTHER full time job to pay your bills, in addition to whatever else is going on, like raising a family in my wife’s case.
I did an 80 hour unpaid internship for a billing job in a clinic, and then they were trying to pay me like $12/hr to work there when I was making $20/hr doing grocery freight. I had to keep working retail for another few years after that but now I've had a job with a different hospital paying more than I made before. Fuck companies that take advantage of unpaid internships still being legal.
