Ricky Rubio sounds alarm for Timberwolves: 'I don't feel like this is building something'

Ricky Rubio sat back and took a long pause while he contemplated the fork in the road right in front of him. He was asked about the difficulty in building a winning culture when the losses keep coming the way they are right now for the Timberwolves. In that moment, Rubio could spout some cliches about sticking together, believing in each other and weathering the storm until the sun comes around.

Or he could be honest. After the Wolves dropped their seventh straight game, and fourth in a row since Chris Finch replaced Ryan Saunders as coach, Rubio couldn’t sugarcoat the state of the team.

“We have to build good habits from day one, and I don’t think we are in the right way, to be honest,” Rubio said after the 118-99 loss to Phoenix on Sunday night dropped them to 7-28 on the season. “I can be here and be positive like we’re trying to be and it’s OK. But we have the worst record in the league.

Franchise history: Missed the playoffs 7 seasons in a row to begin their existence, then had 7 consecutive seasons of first round exits (7-22 record), made the Conference Finals once, and now have missed the playoffs 16 times in the past 17 seasons (including this one). The one playoff appearance was a 4-1 first round exit.

Something really needs to change. They've had one really good season out of 32. They've had only 9 .500+ seasons (one being the 50-game lockout season) out of 32. They also had an all-time great player in KG who they didn't really do anything with.

We’ve been waiting for the T’Wolves to be good for nearly 18 years since the KG deep playoffs run. This is nothing new and ownership needs to be reassessed.
