As Sen. Ted Cruz scrambled to undo the damage he created by abandoning his home state in the middle of a monstrous winter storm that left millions without power, water, and food for days, his internet nemesis Rep. Ocasio-Cortez flew south to do his job for him. On Thursday, AOC took to Twitter to announce a fundraising effort for Texas. According to NPR , within two hours, she raised $325,000 in donations. By Sunday morning, that amount had surpassed $4 million. There’s a very good chance the fundraiser will bring in $5 million before Monday.
AOC did more than just raise money though. She joined local politicians Reps. Sylvia Garcia, Al Green, and Sheila Jackson Lee to fill meal boxes at the Houston Food Bank. They also delivered water and visited the homes of Texans that had been impacted by the storm. “This is not just an issue for Texans; this is an issue for our entire country," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters on Saturday. “And our whole country needs to come and rally together behind the needs of Texans all across this state. That's the New York spirit, that's the Texas spirit, and that's the American spirit." Meanwhile, Cruz was sitting down in his wrinkled Patagonia for an interview with a local news station to double down on his “I did it for the kids” defense.
When news of Sen. Cruz fleeing to Cancun first leaked, converstive media jumped in to defend him by saying that as a federal official, there was nothing Cruz could do for Texans. With her activism, AOC pointed out the obvious to Cruz and his supporters: there are myriad ways to be there for people during a time of need, especially when it’s your job to do so.

Ben Shapiro said 'There's nothing he can do anyways..." In a way Ben's right, because Ted doesn't think about actually making a difference. She raised $2 mil got off her ass and went down there to soup kitchen. Any republican who talks smack on that is daft.

Republican politicians don’t get “caught/exposed as” being heartless assholes, it’s what they openly run on. It’s the foundation of their entire platform.
