This was my immediate thought when I heard Biden talking about not wanting to forgive the debts of the "elite." Simply by definition, the elite aren't the ones drowning in student loan debt. If they were, then they are not the elite.

My husband and I paid for our college education and paid off our loans. Then due to cost, we again paid for HALF of our children’s college educations (3 of them), to keep them within the federal loan amounts because we didn’t want them to be so far in debt. Each one took the federal loans and each one now has $30,000 in student loan debt and that is with parents who paid HALF. It is absolutely wrong that it takes parents who have money to offset costs die kids to go to university! It is unacceptable. They all worked. They all gave their “free time” to the campus scandal of “work for free in the lab because it looks good on your resume” scam which takes away the ability to work more hours for pay. They have everything stacked against these kids and think parents should pay. How is this not obviously inequitable opportunity? Rich parents, you get an education with lower loan debt. No support? You get federal loans that won’t cover the cost. Work study? A joke. You make $10 an hour and they restrict your hours to spread the love around. Ugh. And don’t even get me started on the cost of living factor on these campuses.
