Maybe in a data centre, no regular user is burning through a HDD every 5 years let alone 3.

In God knows how many years of using PC's I've only had a single failure. Most drives become obsolete due to size way before they're at risk of failure e.g. my old 500GB that's due to be replaced in the next year or so.

I've only had one HDD fail on me at about 8 years. And I've owned computers since pre pentium days when Hard drives were measure in MB.
