My two favorite jokes from A Bard's Tale are that one, and The Obligatory Lava Level.
Late in the game you're sent to retrieve an important magical item from The Obligatory Lava Level. When you enter it you're in a small room filled with Lava except for the platform you're standing on and the item on question is at your feet. You just pick it up and leave. That's the whole level. But they had a lava level.
