It looks like a pet food store. How do they keep them from tearing open a bag and gorging?

When I was a kid there were strays all over the neighborhood, as well as house dogs that were simply allowed to wander freely as they pleased. They were go-where-you please dogs and mostly had no masters. Some of the kids were afraid of them, but me and my brother loved wrestling and rolling with them.

Cartoons and other such meme-like things at the time were constantly featuring dog catchers. Guys who rolled around in an armored truck looking for dogs to catch with their nets. Then they’d throw em in the clink. They were usually the antagonists.

I remember as a kid I was always on the watch for dog catchers, so I could help save one of the strays from being caught by one of them, but I never did see one in real life.

Now, as I reflect, I haven’t seen a stray in my city in over 25 years. Dog catchers also seem like they have faded from mainstream American culture, but who knows? Maybe they’re still out there, hiding in a bush somewhere waiting to catch Odie with a net.

i've worked/traveled all over the world. street mutts are part of the scenery. plenty of the locals are outright cruel to the dogs on the street. i was in India with a colleague. i said "wouldn't it be great to bring one of these dogs back home and treat them to healthy food, clean water, vet care, a safe loving home, open spaces to run/swim/relax?"

low & behold, we adopted a pot-cake from the Turks & Caicos islands. we calculated her birthday to be Valentine's Day. Roxy is six today!

it is currently -18f outside right now and she couldn't be happier with her arrangement. fish skin and cheese for lunch today.
